Technical Requirements

Since the core of the programme is being delivered online, you need permanent and easy access to a computer with a broadband connection.

Strong broadband connection is essential to watch online lectures on a weekly basis.

Please note, that you will not able to download the videos and watch them offline. You need to be online in order to access the course and watch the lectures.

We recommend that you use EITHER a wired landline connection (i.e. a network connection that is connected directly to your computer) OR a wireless connection where you have a ‘hub’ at home that is wired. (i.e. a landline that comes into your home through the phone or TV service and then is wireless inside the house).

The recommended connection speed is 1MB or faster.

NOTE: If you are using a completely wireless connection (such as a mobile phone or a mobile wireless ‘dongle’ that plugs into your laptop), you may experience low download speeds or ‘drop out’ depending on signal strength. If you are using a mobile device, you will need at least  a 3G connection in order to view the presentations.

Linux

Mediasite 7.0.30 and later

Mediasite supports on-demand and live presentation playback on Linux. The majority of testing was done against Ubuntu, but other Linux distributions should work as well. In order to play back Mediasite content we recommend the following:

Mediasite 7.0.28 and earlier

Mediasite supports on-demand presentation playback of MP4 content on Linux. Linux users may be required to install the necessary codecs needed to playback H.264 content. Additionally, Linux users will also require an appropriate browser that can use the H.264 codecs with the HTML5 media element. Installation of necessary browsers, support software and video codecs varies per Linux distribution.

Sonic Foundry has tested, on-demand presentation play back with H.264 content in MP4 format with the Chromium web browser and FFmpeg plugin. We used the following installation procedures to set up the Linux System for testing:
