Appeals

Students who have been unsuccessful in an Examination may appeal their result in that Examination, subject to the relevant Rules & Regulations.

All applications for appeals must be received within FIVE (5) DAYS of the publication of results on the Accounting Technicians Ireland website. Late applications will not be considered. You must also enclose the appropriate fee as applications received without payment cannot be processed.

Appeals Process for Students who registered in the Academic Year 2008-2009 (or subsequently)

Please note especially that with any appeal, marks may go up or down, or may remain unchanged.

In brief, there are two paths available:

1. Recheck

Any unsuccessful candidate may apply for a recheck. This is purely an administrative check of the paper. A recheck will ensure:

  • That totals are correct for each question
  • That all sections of the paper were marked
  • That the marks have been correctly transcribed
  • That all marks were correctly included in the final result
  • That the computer record is correct

Download the Recheck Application Form. Return the completed form to the Examinations Department before the deadline.

2. Review (or full remarking)

An unsuccessful candidate may ONLY apply for a review on the following grounds:

  • There is evidence of substantial irregularity in the conduct of the Examination(s) OR
  • There is evidence of substantial irregularity in the Examination paper(s)

Please note especially that disagreement with the mark awarded is not grounds for an appeal. If you do not have grounds for a review, your application fee will not be returned to you.

A review will involve a complete remarking of the paper by an independent examiner.

Appeals Process for Students who registered for the Academic Year 2007-2008 (or previously)

Unsuccessful candidates should complete the Stage One appeals form and return this to the Examinations Department.

A Stage One appeal is an administrative check of the mark awarded to insure:

  • That totals are correct for each question
  • That all sections of the paper were marked
  • That the marks have been correctly transcribed
  • That all marks were correctly included in the final result
  • That the computer record is correct
