Accounting Technicians Ireland Appoints New Director of Education

19 May 2011: Accounting Technicians Ireland, the professional body for accounting technicians, has appointed Gillian Doherty to its senior management team as Director of Education.

In her new role, she will have responsibility for the development and implementation of the educational strategy for the professional body. The organisation represents over 10,000 people working in accounting and finance roles on an all-island basis and currently has 5,000 students and its syllabus is taught in over 80 colleges nationwide.

Ms Doherty was previously the Director of Professional Services with The Insurance Institute of Ireland where she worked for 10 years. In that role she held overall responsibility for the delivery of educational services and CPD compliance strategy. Prior to that, she has held different education and teaching posts with a variety of third level institutions.

She holds a BA Hons in German and Linguistics from UCD and took part in the AFS Scholarship Programme to Germany. She was a founding member of the Professional Standards Advisory Board, was a member of the National Consumer Agency's Working Group on Financial Education and remains a member of the Institute of Directors Ireland.

Commenting on the appointment, Gay Sheehan, Chief Executive, Accounting Technicians Ireland said: "I am delighted that Gillian has joined Accounting Technicians Ireland. Her role is hugely strategic to the organisation as we continue to drive forward our qualification. With almost 25 years' experience of working within education, she brings exceptional pedigree and experience and I have no doubt that she will prove a great addition to our team."
