Will I have to sit exams?
Yes and you have a maximum of ten years* to successfully complete all exams which means that you can take them at your own pace. However, most students will complete the exams over a two year period. Students will be credited with a pass in individual papers if they obtain 50% or higher. This avoids costly repeats. Each exam lasts for three hours, with the exception of Integrated Accounting Systems which is a three and a half hour exam.
*All First Year exams must be successfully completed within six years of registration
Accounting Technicians Ireland support you in preparing for your exams through the following mediums:
- Course manuals written specifically for the Accounting Technician programme
- A study guide to ease you into studying for a professional accounting qualification
- Past Papers and Solutions for you to consult while preparing for the exams
- Tutorials which many students find invaluable in preparing for the exams. The tutorials are run on Saturdays and cover the Accounting Technicians Ireland syllabus
Once students have passed the exams and obtained their two years relevant work experience, they will have completed the Diploma for Accounting Technicians qualification. These two elements can be completed either simultaneously or at different stages.
In tandem, you will also become a Full Member of the professional body Accounting Technicians Ireland, which enables you to use the professional designation MIATI after your name.
In order to complete the qualification, you must submit your Record of Work Experience which has been verified by your mentor, along with the appropriate assessment fee.
